Our Nordic Pine is pressure-treated to a Class 4 ACQ standard, using an arsenic-free copper-based preservative system rather than older CCA chemistry. Class 4 treatment is rated for structural components and decking that sits close to or in direct contact with the ground, giving it strong resistance to rot, fungal decay and insect attack in exactly the conditions a deck substructure has to survive.

Pine, sold in the various hazard classes covered in our guide to CCA treated pine grades, remains a reliable and more affordable option for framing, general structural work and less exposed applications. Nordic Pine sits a step up: its slower growth gives it a denser, tighter grain than most S.A. Pine, which translates into better dimensional stability and a cleaner finish for decking and cladding specifically.
If budget is the main driver and the application is not highly exposed, our S.A. Pine range or structural pine stock is still a sound choice. If you want the tightest grain and best stability for a visible deck or cladding project, Nordic Pine is worth the step up.
