Comparing Shutterboard Thickness
We stock both 18mm shutterply UNT C+C (York) and 21mm shutterply UNT C+C (York) board, and choosing the correct thickness matters greatly to the outcome of your project. It comes down to the type of project you’re undertaking.
18mm shutterply: This is the standard option for most lightweight projects. 18mm works for most residential slabs, columns, and basic frameworks. It’s lighter and easier to handle, and can resist bowing under normal pour pressure.
21mm shutterply: Although only 3mm extra, there is a notable difference in rigidity and strength. This is the correct shutterply thickness for heavy concrete slabs, industrial shelving, taller walls, and larger pours.

Pine Face vs Hardwood Face Shutter Board
Another important factor when purchasing your shutterply is deciding between pine or hardwood face shutter boards. Pine-faced is cheaper and works fine for boards that will only handle one or two pours in total. If you plan to use the same boards multiple times, hardwood face is the best value for your money. Paying for hardwood makes sense if you want to keep the same boards in rotation.

All our shutter boards are available in standard 1220 x 2440mm sheet sizes. The different options are for thickness and face. You can select 18mm pine shutter board at R470 ex VAT and 18mm Hardwood shutter board at R470 ex VAT. For thicker sheet options, our 21mm Pine shutter board is R521.00 ex VAT, while 21mm Hardwood shutter board is R560 ex VAT.
