Pine Skirting Boards: Profiles & Sizes
So, what are skirting boards, and which one should you choose? We’ve all seen skirting boards before – they’re the strip of wood (or less often, plastic) attached to the bottom of the interior walls of rooms, where the wall meets the floor. They cover the base of walls, protecting them and covering the gap between the wall and floor, for a cleaner overall appearance.
Here are some important differences between the various sizes and types of skirting boards we supply:
22×44 mm Pine Skirting: If you are after a clean, understated finish, this compact option is worth considering. When it comes to minimalism and simplicity, 22×44 mm pine skirting’s subtle profile is ideal for small rooms and simple renovations.
21x69mm Pine Skirting: This is a very popular size for standard residential rooms, and it is available in three different profiles, giving you more control over the aesthetic finish. SK6 is more decorative and features stepped detailing, while Pencil Edge has a softly rounded top edge for an elegant yet simple appearance. Bullnose is thought of as more traditional, with a classic rounded top.
22×96 Pine Skirting: The main difference between the 21x69mm pine skirting and the 22×96 pine skirting is the added height of the latter. Many builders choose this size for larger rooms or spaces, since narrow skirting can almost go unnoticed. Choose between Pencil Edge, SK6, and Bullnose profiles depending on your personal style.
22x144mm Pine Skirting: Are you adding skirting to a room that is very spacious and has high ceilings? Our 22x144mm pine skirting (available in Pencil Edge or SK6 profiles) can help balance the proportions of a room while adding a subtle touch of style. This is the tallest pine skirting size in our range.
How Much Pine Skirting Do You Need?
Since skirting is sold by the metre, it is relatively easy to calculate how much you will need. At Online Building, we tell our clients to measure the perimeter of each room, subtract the width or all doorways and openings, and then add an extra 5-10% for cutting waste. For example, a 4m × 3.5m room with a 0.9m doorway would need about 15.5m of skirting (allowing for 10% extra).
